Children naturally love nature: water, stones, insects, trees. But a long, boring hike can put them off walking. The secret is to make it an adventure, not a workout.
Choose the right trail
- Keep it short: roughly one hour of walking for every five years of the child's age.
- A clear goal that excites them: a waterfall, a pool or a small summit.
- Trails such as the Chrafate waterfalls or the start of the Akchour valley are perfect for families.
Make it a game
- Give each child a mission: who'll spot the first bird? Who'll find a heart-shaped leaf?
- Let them lead the group for a while.
- Take plenty of breaks to play by the water or under a tree.
Food and water
Children get tired and hungry faster than adults. Bring snacks they love and offer them as a reward when you reach a certain point. Make sure they drink regularly.
Safety
- Stay close to them near water and drop-offs.
- Give them a hat and sunscreen.
- Bring spare clothes: they'll definitely get wet.
I guide families on trails adapted to the children's ages; length and pace can be adjusted when you book.
